Beretta DT11: The Olympic Standard in Competition Shotguns

The Beretta DT11 is the world’s most successful competition over-and-under, a successor to the legendary DT10 that has secured more Olympic medals than any other platform. Built as a dedicated boxlock competition tool, the “DT” stands for Detachable Trigger, allowing for rapid maintenance or replacement during high-stakes matches. The DT11 is defined by its overbuilt receiver—3mm wider than its predecessor—providing extreme durability and a centered balance that promotes a stable, predictable swing.

Core Technology: Steelium Pro

The soul of the DT11 lies in its Steelium Pro barrels. Unlike standard barrels, these feature an incredibly long, 450mm triple forcing cone (on a 76cm barrel). This progressive conicity extends nearly to the muzzle, resulting in:

  • Drastically Reduced Recoil: The gradual compression of the shot column prevents the “sharp punch” associated with short forcing cones.
  • Pattern Superiority: Minimal pellet deformation leads to denser, more uniform patterns.
  • Muzzle Stability: The design virtually eliminates muzzle rise, enabling the fastest possible second-shot acquisition in the industry.

Key Variations of the DT11

The DT11 is engineered into specific configurations tailored to different clay disciplines. Each variation modifies the stock dimensions, barrel weight, and rib style to suit the unique requirements of the game.

1. DT11 Sporting

Designed for the variable targets of Sporting Clays and FITASC, the Sporting model features a wide, ventilated rib and a stock designed for a more instinctive mount. It typically comes with a set of five Optima-Choke HP (OCHP) extended tubes, allowing the shooter to adapt to targets ranging from 10 to 60 yards.

2. DT11 Trap

The Trap model is built for the rising targets of American and International Trap. It features a heavier barrel set and a stock with a higher comb to place the Point of Impact (POI) slightly above the aiming point. This allows the shooter to keep the rising target in view above the barrel. It is often available with fixed chokes (Improved Modified/Full) or OCHP tubes.

3. DT11 Skeet

Optimized for the fast-crossing targets of Skeet, this version uses shorter, lighter barrels (typically 28″ or 30″) and an open mid-rib to reduce weight and increase swing speed. The stock is tailored for the high-volume, repetitive mounting style characteristic of the discipline.

4. DT11 ACS (All Competition Shotgun)

The ACS is the most versatile model in the lineup. It features an adjustable high rib and a B-Fast adjustable comb stock. By clicking the rib dial, the shooter can shift the POI from a 50/50 flat shot for Sporting Clays to an 80/20 high shot for Trap, making it a single-gun solution for all three major disciplines.

5. DT11 Black DLC

The Black DLC represents the high-tech pinnacle of the line. It replaces the traditional silver-nickel finish with a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating on the receiver and barrels. This finish is exceptionally resistant to corrosion (including acidic sweat) and wear. It also features a carbon fiber top rib to reduce barrel weight and move the balance point closer to the hinge pin for a livelier feel.

6. DT11 Black Pro

The Black Pro is the ultimate “out of the box” competition rig. It combines the Black Edition’s DLC finish and carbon fiber rib with a fully adjustable TSK stock. This Italian-engineered articulated stock allows for infinite adjustments to length of pull, cast, drop, and pitch, effectively providing a custom-fitted stock without the wait time of a bespoke wood carving.

7. DT11 L & EELL (Luxury Variants)

For the shooter who demands performance paired with artistry, the L (Luxury) and EELL (Extra-Extra Luxury) models offer hand-finished engravings and premium Grade 4 or 5 walnut. While the internal mechanics and Steelium Pro barrels remain identical to the competition models, the EELL features long sideplates with intricate floral or game scene motifs.
